The Tennessee Fisher House Foundation, Inc.

The Tennessee Fisher House Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Fisher House and the needs of its guests.  The House  is located on the campus of the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center, 3400 Lebanon Pike,  Murfreesboro TN.

For members of our Armed Forces, retirees, veterans and their families, the Fisher House offers shelter and support during a medical crisis.  It offers a comforting home environment when a loved one is receiving care in an unfamiliar place during a stressful time of serious illness or injury.  Most importantly, due to the generosity of people like you, no family pays for their stay.

The Fisher House Foundation

Fisher House Foundation is best known for the network of comfort homes built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. The Fisher Houses are 5,000 to 16,800 square-foot homes, donated to the military and Department of Veterans Affairs, where families can stay while a loved one is receiving treatment. Additionally, the Foundation ensures that families of service men and women wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan are not burdened with unnecessary expense during a time of crisis.

Located in close proximity to the medical center or hospital it serves, each Fisher House consists of between 8 and 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and an inviting living room with a library and toys for children. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is no fee to stay in a Fisher House. Since inception, the program has saved military and veteran families millions of dollars in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

Fisher House Foundation operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members. To date, Hero Miles has provided over 40,000 airline tickets worth an estimated $63 Million to our military and their families.  www.fisherhouse.org/programs/hero-miles

In addition, Fisher House Foundation facilitates Hotels For Heroes, which provides hotel rooms at authorized medical centers for wounded, injured or ill military (or ill civilian DOD employees) and their families when a Fisher House is not available.  Rooms are made possible through the donation of rewards points by the hotel’s reward members.  www.fisherhouse.org/programs/hotels-for-heroes

The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities called Newman’s Own Awards in conjunction with Newman’s Own Foundation, Fisher House Foundation and Military Times (Gannett Government Media Corp.) who join together in presenting $100,000 in grants to the most creative military quality of life improvement plan.  and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.  See www.fisherhouse.org for more information.
